Toor Dal

Indian recipes use a number of completely different dals (lentils) native to India. Toor dal, also called arhar, is a well-liked dish in nearly each family. Under I describe two variations, one with added greens and the opposite with seasoning solely. Serves 2 to 4.

Variation 1: With Vegetable Chaunk/Seasoning

  • 1/2 tsp crimson chili powder lal mirch
  • 2 bay leaves tajpat
  • Pinch of asafetida hing
  • 1 medium tomato chopped
  • 1 small zucchini chopped into 1 inch lengthy cubes
  • 6 string beans chopped about 1 inch lengthy

Variation 2: Chaunk/Seasoning

  • 2 Tbsp clear butter ghee
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seed jeera
  • 1/2 tsp black mustard seed rai
  • 2 bay leaves tajpat
  • Pinch of asafetida hing
  • 4 complete crimson chili sabut lal mirch
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • Wash dal, altering water a number of occasions till the water seems clear.
